Health and Beauty Essentials for the Bride

Of course, you want to look effortlessly striking on your wedding day. Who doesn’t?! However, it takes some self-discipline. Don’t worry; it will be so worth it.

Starting on some beneficial health and beauty habits a year in advance is ideal.

Bridal health and beauty is such an expansive array of habits, so we’re just going to touch on the basics here. You’ll find more on each element on HAPPLY‘s blog and directories as we go along!

Nutrition

Eating correctly not only helps you to look well. You’ll also feel great. Eating healthily can thus help you have the energy you need to handle all the wedding preparations. It’s step one in your wedding health and beauty strategy.

If you aren’t sure how you should eat for your body type and metabolism, it’s best to consult a nutritionist. They can help you with a customised plan.

Otherwise, here are a few universal dos and don’ts. –

Do:

  • Plan a sustainable, wholesome diet and follow it consistently.
  • Eat lots of fruit and veg - juicing is a fantastic way to get all these nutrients.
  • Drink water – it helps your body digest food, eliminates toxins, and therefore clarifies your complexion. Eight glasses a day is the typical aim.
  • Minimise or eliminate alcohol - it dries out your skin and can make you look haggard and greyish.
  • Cut out or limit sugar intake. This helps with weight loss and keeps skin looking clear, fresh, and plump.

Don’t:

  • Go on a crash diet – this is sure to end in tears, and is rarely ever conducive to a happy, healthy lifestyle.
  • Eat lots of carbohydrates. This may be just what you are craving after a busy day but resist the urge. Carbs pack on the pounds. Instead, plan meals ahead of time.
  • Yoyo around with your diet. This can wreak havoc with your system. Rather be consistent.

Exercise

Start an exercise program that works for you. Find something you enjoy doing. Exercise makes you feel good and is excellent for your skin tone.

As your upper body will likely be on display in your wedding gown, spend time sculpting this area. Yoga and Pilates postures target this zone, and some light weights, are excellent.

Glowing Facial skin

Besides following your nutritional plan, it’s best to have a skin treatment strategy. A good routine includes regular exfoliation, using an appropriate facial masque, moisturising, and skin brightening.

Look for products that work for your skin type and follow the plan religiously. You’ll be grateful you did on the big day!

If you’re not sure what’s right for you, consult a dermatologist or beauty therapist is recommended. Their expert advice will put you on the right track. Do this as soon as possible.

Soft Body Skin

Don’t forget the skin on your body will also need some TLC. Make sure to exfoliate often to remove dead skin cells that can make your skin look dull. You can try dry brushing to help with this.

Focus on your décolletage. This area will probably be visible in your dress. The delicate skin gets burned and wrinkled easily. Find skin care products that target these issues.

Nails

Around three months before your wedding, start going for regular manicures. The treatments nourish and improve cuticles, the nails themselves, and the skin of the hands. This way, your hands and nails will be in perfect condition for your wedding.

Remember to get your nails done at least 2 or 3 days before the wedding. Go for neutral colours for a timeless, natural finish.

Hair

Decide how you would like to have your hair – colour and style-wise – and start prepping about six months ahead. Get your colours done six months in advance, and then topped up ten days before the wedding. Work within one or two shades of your original colour for a natural look.

Make sure you use quality shampoo and conditioner in the meantime to keep your hair luscious. Then, your hairdresser needs only to prep and style your hair on the day.

Teeth

Visit the dentist at least six months out. If you need any cleaning or whitening done, there will be plenty of time to do so. Minimise drinking tea, coffee, and red wine to keep those pearly whites as pretty as you can.

Get Loads of Sleep

Sleep helps the body to regenerate. From the brain to skin, hair, and muscle – you name it; sleep improves it all. A good night’s rest also lowers levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, in the body, helping you deal with strain. Cortisol also tells the body it’s in distress and that it must hang onto every bit of fat available. We don’t want that.

Manage Stress

At some point, overwhelm will hit. So, it’s useful to integrate a mindfulness practice to help manage this. Yoga, meditation, practicing gratitude, and doing breathwork regularly can help you manage wedding tension.

Final Thoughts

Your health and beauty needs are very individual. So, make sure you find what works for you in each area. Don’t put together a strategy that makes you feel daunted – rather create a sustainable plan that you enjoy.
