5 Ways to Beat Wedding Stress

Planning a wedding is such fun, but it is also a demanding undertaking. It can get pretty stressful. You may find you feel daunted at the outset or overwhelmed as the big day gets nearer.

But not to worry, there are many ways you can find your calm in the storm.

1. Get Organised

It's best if you can get a streamlined system going right at the start of your planning. That way, you will be getting ahead of the possible craziness. Here are some ways to get your organisation on:

  • Use the HAPPLY templates, resources, and digital planning platforms. Premade resources alleviate a lot of stress.
  • If you have hard copies of contracts, pages of wedding inspiration etc. lying around, try to keep it all in a neatly ordered file. This helps you find what you are looking for quickly and prevents clutter in your home.
  • Think through and plan as much as you can early on. Then, it is just lighter touches and details you'll have on your plate closer to the event.
  • Try to have contingencies for most circumstances in case some things fall through.
  • Ensure you have delegated tasks to your wedding party or your wedding planner. You don't have to do it all on your own. Sharing duties with your friends and family makes it much more fun, too!

2. Give Yourself Enough Time

Make sure you have enough time to plan your wedding at a comfortable pace. If there are problems, then you will have a windfall of time to resolve them.

Trying to sort out miscommunications or suppliers dropping out last minute can push you over the edge. If changes need to happen, say, four months before the day, it takes the pressure off.

There will always be some last-minute details to attend to. But if you have taken care of all the more pressing in advance, then you won't be trying to juggle too much in one go at the 11th hour.

3. Take Breaks

Establish a routine of planning that allows for some leniency to take breaks, so as not to overexert yourself. Aim to set aside days and times each week to attend to wedding matters. Make sure you have gaps and days in your schedule to relax.

It is also much better for your relationship if you and your partner arrange some recreational activities outside of wedding plans.

When things become overwhelming, take a quick weekend away to if you need a change of scenery. You'll feel much better and be able to see things more clearly after a break.

4. Don't Bottle Things Up

When you feel the pressure, try to talk to someone you trust about it rather than let it all build up inside you. However, be careful how you say things and to whom you tell them – you don't want to hurt anyone.

That said, sometimes there is that particular person in your wedding planning life who needs to know how their actions are coming across. If this happens, speak to them honestly, kindly, and when you are calm.

5. Exercise

Sticking to a regular exercise routine will not only help keep you in shape for the big day; it will also help you work off any frustration in a healthy way. It helps take your mind off things and gets some of those feel-good endorphins kicking into your system.

Do the exercise you enjoy. Making yourself do workouts you don't like will only add to the stress!

Lastly

In the maelstrom of all that needs to be done, it can be easy to lose perspective. Don't forget why you are doing all this. You will be saying 'I do' with the person with whom you have chosen to spend your life.

Everything else is no biggie.
