Once you’ve nailed down your wedding theme and style and sorted out your gown and accessories, it’s time to look at details for your bridesmaids. These items include earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, pins, shoes, hair wreaths, or other styling decorations.
To make sure everyone looks their best on the special day, check out our essential accessorising tips:
Make sure the colours and styles of any accessories match your scheme and overall feel. You don’t want glaring clashes unless you are going for an offbeat, postmodernist sort of vibe! Let your bridesmaids know guidelines for what you would like them to wear accessory-wise.
Accessories should also compliment the type of dresses your bridesmaids will be wearing. Certain colours go better with specific metals, so make sure this is streamlined. Don’t forget to make sure bridesmaid accessories go with those the bride will be wearing.
When in doubt, simple and elegant never goes out of style!
Once you have discussed the look and feel you’re going for with everyone, allow your ladies to choose their own accessories. This will likely make your gals happy as they will have the freedom to choose what they feel suits them best. As they may have some nice pieces at home already, it could also help them to save some unnecessary spending.
You can also let your bridesmaids know if you have any style you would like to stick to. For example, you can stipulate simple silver jewellery only, no statement pieces, or whatever you will. Then your ladies can select accessories within your parameters. Just remember to be reasonable.
If you would like your bridesmaids to wear a very specific accessory, it is good etiquette to make the purchase for them. This is especially true if what you would like them to wear comes with a higher price tag. It isn’t fair to expect people to buy pricey items they may never wear again.
However, if you make a gift of an accessory, it creates good vibes. You could even do this to double up as a thank-you present for your friends’ involvement in your wedding.
If you would like your bridesmaids to wear hair wreaths, or similar floral arrangement styles, keep in mind this may need to come out of your pocket as well. For floral hairstyles to look natural and beautiful, they will need to be done by a professional. As you would most likely be getting your stylist to do your bridesmaids’ hair anyway, this is a given.
Don’t forget to chat about shoes with your ladies! Again, you can give them certain parameters to work within. For example, you can specify silver flat or low-heeled sandals, or pumps in a particular colour, or whatever goes with your overall wedding look and feel.
Shoes are more noticeable than you realise, especially at an event as smart as a wedding. So, make sure to go overshoe details carefully. Shoes need to look as good as new, even if they have not been purchased specifically for your wedding. Any scuffs and ragged edges are very noticeable when the rest of the attire is polished.
Sorting out all the pretty details with your bridesmaids is a fun thing to do! Make the most of it and make it fun for everyone. It’s an excellent opportunity to bond with your best ladies.
Happy accessorising!
