4 Reasons to Sleep Apart on the Eve of Your Wedding

You may be wondering whether you and your intended should spend the night apart or together on the eve of the wedding. Customarily, the bride and groom will not see each other overnight and until the wedding ceremony. While this approach is not for everyone, it can help to add some extra romance and anticipation.

Here are four reasons to give each other some space the night before the wedding.

1. Time to Yourself to Reflect

By sleeping apart, you'll each have some time to process the magnitude of the wedding day and your impending marriage. You will have the opportunity to be settled in your mind and thus approach the big day with calmness and serenity.

You can spend the night with your family or at a best friend's house. Some people like to have their wedding party around them the night before. While it may be fun to have all your bridesmaids (for the ladies) and groomsmen (for the guys) stay over with you, be careful that it doesn't turn into a late night. You'll need your beauty sleep, and it helps to have some time alone to prepare mentally and emotionally for your wedding.

2. It's Romantic

Missing someone just a little always adds extra romance to your next meeting. Think of sayings such as 'absence makes the heart grow fonder', and, 'the longer the wait, the sweeter the kiss'.

Some couples who have been living together already stay with friends or family for as long as two weeks before the wedding. If you've been sharing an apartment, spending a week or two or at least an evening away from each other will make the wedding day more magical.

3. It's Exciting

Waking up on the wedding morning full of anticipation to see and wed your beloved is a sensation second to none. By having the butterflies in your tummy at seeing your beloved, you will be getting the full wedding experience!

4. It's Symbolic

Sleeping apart the evening before the big day can help delineate your unmarried life from your soon-to-be-married one. It is, therefore, a symbolic gesture. In other words, spending the night apart can help symbolise the moving from your birth family to the one you'll make for yourself.

Due to most couples living together before marriage these days, creating this definition can be significant. Living together before marriage is an excellent modern norm. You'll learn each other's quirks, and your decision to marry will be a more informed one!

That said, many couples feel the need for some small changes to occur from living together to being married. Spending an evening, or a few days apart can assist in creating this sense of transformation.

There Are No Rules

Remember, times have changed, and no rule says you must spend the evening apart. Some couples feel more comfortable keeping close and supporting each other through those wedding jitters. This is beautiful as well, so don't be pressured into doing something that doesn't gel with who you are as a couple.

Do whatever feels right for you and your partner!
