Now that 2022 has come and gone, we’re looking forward to 2023 and what it’s going to bring to the world of weddings! Let’s delve into some wedding trends for 2023 together.
Elements of 80’s fashion are showing up in wedding dress styles more and more; with puffy sleeves, full skirts, high slits, and the minimal, bohemian dress being at the forefront.
Women wearing suits, adding bows, embroidery, and pearl detailing are also proving to be in the pique of wedding fashion.
Mismatched bridesmaids’ dresses are set to stay in the top yearly wedding trends with couples opting to give bridal party members more freedom in their outfits for the big day.
Traditional bridal parties are out with more and more couples opting to create their bridal party from their actual friend group and ignoring the archaic ‘norm’ of a single sex set of bridesmaids and groomsmen.
Similarly, single sex pre-wedding events are also taking a back seat with couple opting for either a joint event (such as bachelor/bachelorettes) and/or an event that includes all of their friends.
Bold and beautiful blues are set to be one of the biggest colours of the year with any and all shades of pink being popular as well.
Smaller bouquets are the new rage with more couples opting for simple (think a small garden style collection of flowers) arrangements to walk down the isle with; making the dress the star of their wedding attire.
Flowers you could use include lilac, lily of the valley, baby’s breath, forget-me-nots, lavender, sweet alyssum, and astilbe. If none of those are for you, any vintage-inspired arrangement will stick with the trends.
Bouquets are the only small floral element expected at weddings in 2023. The bigger the arrangement the better as couples move towards grand designs from sweeping floor arrangements to those with different heights and vessels to add a floral flair to the day.
Guest lists are expected to remain, in general, smaller than pre-pandemic years; however, couples aren’t spending less and are ramping up their catering and entertainment options instead.
Couples are often opting to have more immersive dinning experiences (such as meals being cooked in front of them) and/or having decadent and carefully curated menu or harvest table. In a quality over quantity battle, couples want to give their guests something they will enjoy eating and won’t be wasted (after all, catering is expensive).
A cocktail hour is quickly becoming a must have for any wedding. Couples will generally select a few cocktails to offer (one generally being sentimental to them) following coffees, etc. – it is a fabulous way to get guests into the P-A-R-T-Y mood.
More couples are opting for the modernised version of wedding fruit cake (not the Christmas kind). New and exciting combinations of fruit flavours are being made into cakes such as raspberry and white chocolate, and strawberry and rose flavouring.
Couples are also looking for better ways to entertain their guests during their wedding. Not only are disposable cameras making a comeback, but we expect larger musical ensembles, more lawn games, and more dazzlingly different entertainment acts to make a guests’ experience at their wedding truly unforgettable.
Outdoor weddings will remain a favourite for many couples with twilight weddings (a wedding that starts anytime from 05:30pm onwards) taking the top spot for wedding timing.
You can expect to say goodbye to the dreaded first dance and say hello to ‘first looks’. This trend entails couples having a private moment (generally with their photographer) together before the ceremony starts and really take the emotions and excitement of the day in without intrusion.
