Planning the perfect proposal

Now that you have covered the first 3 easy steps of planning the proposal, it's time to set the stage for the big question!

A well thought out and planned proposal will make all the difference in the world.

Once you have added an element you will be able to customise the element using the settings.
You can add as many elements as you want.

Step 1: Choose the perfect place.

This step, while essential to the perfect proposal, does not have to break the bank. Gather inspiration from her and discreetly find out where her favorite places are. This could be in the garden, her family’s backyard, the beach or the mountains. If you’re concerned that you might let her know what you’re up to, reflect on your memories with her. Where did you have your first date, your first kiss, or your first declaration of love? Sentimentality can make the occasion even more special. A few candles, fairy lights, and some flowers can really set the mood for the occasion.

Step 2: Pick a date.

Again, dig through your fondest memories for what would be the most meaningful date, perhaps the day you met or realized you were in love, the day you first kissed or said: "I love you". Consider the weather if it's to be an outdoor proposal. Check the weather patterns for the area at that time. You may consider proposing on a holiday or either of your birthdays, however, keep in mind that your partner might not want to overlap one special occasion with another.

For example, Valentine’s Day is famous for proposing, after all, it's the day of love, but some people find it too mainstream to get engaged on this day, so here is where your insight of your partner’s preferences has a chance to shine. Consider a "Plan B" day if things take an unexpected turn - a family tragedy, illness or extreme weather conditions may force a change of date. Being organized and having another option will give you peace of mind.

Step 3: Who will be joining?

It's always a good idea to have a Photographer. This magical moment should be frozen in time. Snapping that moment of surprise is priceless. The bonus is that you will have a photoshoot to hang on to and will be ready with Insta pics to announce the engagement! If there are budget constraints ask a friend or family who has a flair for photography. But don't miss capturing the surprise. Decide if it's going to be intimate and just the 2 of you or if you think she would love to share the occasion with a few close friends and family. If so have them waiting in the wings until the right moment.

Should you decide to have your closest friends and family involved, you can make your plans known to them by creating a secret proposal group on WhatsApp so nobody spoils the surprise. She will definitely want to be looking the part. Consider that she will definitely want to look her best for the occasion, so veiling the event with a friend’s birthday or another celebration will help.

Step 4: Plan the proposal speech

A great way to start is to begin at the beginning, use an anecdotal moment that makes her laugh, or a fond memory of an occasion you shared. Pour your heart out! Profess your undying love for her. Declare that she is the most beautiful person in the world. Tell her how she makes you feel. Whatever it takes, this is your time to shine. Make it count. Prepare notes of what you are going to say beforehand, jot down your feelings and rehearse it a few times. Pop the piece of paper in your pocket so you can freshen up on your words shortly beforehand. At the moment you don't want to feel lost for words. Don't forget to tack on the question "WILL YOU MARRY ME?". Use your partner’s full name before you say "WILL YOU MARRY ME?"

Step 5: Secure the Rock.

Make sure you have this little guy insured and hidden in a safe place. Invest in a small organza bag and keep the box hidden. It's easier to keep a sneaky small bag hidden than having a huge bulge in your pocket. Your partner is sure to smell a rat when she spots a bulge in your pocket.
