A Quick Guide to Choosing the Perfect Wedding Venue

1

When looking for the perfect wedding venue, that will take centre stage on your big day, it is important that this is done early, to you can ensure that your desired date and requirements are available. This is one of THE most exciting steps in your wedding planning process. Be sure to view a variety of venues, to get a better idea of what truly catches your eye and truly speaks to your heart.

Then, let the adventure begin!!

When choosing your perfect wedding venue, we have drawn up a list of a few points to consider when looking at your potential venues:

Budget – When starting the budgeting process for your wedding, a fair chunk of that will go to the venue, so make sure you set this aside. Make sure the venue suits your financial plan, to make sure that you have the perfect day. Check if the venue does discounts for weekday / off season weddings, this could help you save on venue hire.

Your Wedding Theme – Make sure that your wedding venue suits your chosen theme. For example, a rustic wedding may not suit a 5-star hotel, so you would need to look for a country, rustic wedding venue. Envision all the elements of your wedding and whether or not they all go together with the venue e.g. catering, décor and flowers.

Guest Numbers – Don’t book a large venue if your guest numbers are small and intimate, otherwise your wedding may look a little sparse and empty. On the opposite end, don’t book too many guests for a small venue which will leave your guests very crammed and uncomfortable.

Weather and a Back-up Plan – Check the weather for the season and area you have chosen. If you book an outdoor venue during the rainy season, make sure your venue has a back-up plan or suggestions in the event of rain.

Surrounding Location – Check the overall area / feel where your venue is located. Is it close to nearby accommodation for any out of town guests or close to a main road for those that will drive home after the wedding? Is the area safe?

Vendor Options – Some venues allow you to use vendors of your choosing, while other venues prefer you to use their preferred suppliers. If you prefer to use your own vendors, make sure that your venue allows for this or if you will incur a surcharge to do so.

Restrictions – Find out what the venue closing time is, what time the music must be off, etc. and check whether your venue can indeed accommodate your desired timeline.

Reviews – Check the reviews for a venue that you may be considering. Find out what other brides experiences where at a particular venue, this will give you insight into how your day will be run and handled by the venue and you may pick up a few interesting tid bits and tricks!

Packages – Find out what is included in your wedding package at all venues. This makes sure that there are no last-minute expenses for any exclusions e.g.: are tables, chairs and cutlery included or will this need to be sourced separately?
