5 Tips for Creating Beautiful Wedding Invitations

Crafting your wedding invitations is one of the most enjoyable parts of planning your nuptials. There are so many ideas and ways you can make them. However, it's also critical to get it right.

It would help if you planned to get invites done 6 to 9 months ahead of your wedding. Here are five tips for making stunning and correct wedding invitations.

1. Consider Going Digital

Much like your Save The Dates, you can also go digital with your invites. This can save time and precious pennies. With HAPPLY's beautiful guest management templates, this is so simple. You can then either send 'E-vites', or you can get the invitations printed out.

If you would rather opt for the more formal, traditional wedding route, printing out digital creations and placing them in elegant envelopes is the best option. You can save money by printing yourself, but you may not get the same quality, and it takes much more time.

2. Making Your Own Invites

If you're into arts and crafts, making your invites may be tempting. However, while it's a fun idea, it takes oodles of time and can become a massive chore. Wedding stationery and craft items can also be costly, especially if you are having a big wedding.

If making your own is what you've always dreamt of, then go for it. Just make sure it's in your budget, and start early! Otherwise, there are so many digital ideas to choose from that look gorgeous and save you time and money.

3. Follow Invitation Etiquette

You may wonder how to write an invite correctly. Things have relaxed and changed a lot during modern times, but it helps to keep the following in mind:

Bride and Groom's Names

Typically, the invites should state the full names of the couple getting married. Some people like to say only the bride's first name (which appears first), and the groom's full name, seeing as she will most likely adopt his surname. Do what feels right for you.

Host's Names

The names of those hosting the wedding, which may be the bride and groom's parents, should appear in full on the wedding invitation.

The Date and Time

Customarily, the wedding date and time are written out in full. For example, write: 'Saturday the tenth of July, two thousand and twenty-one, at two o'clock in the afternoon'. If this is a bit long-winded for you, 'Saturday 10 July 2021 at two o'clock in the afternoon' is still suitable. As you can see, the first does look more proper!

The Venue Address

Make sure the venue address is correct and clear. Write out all the details of the address. This is both good etiquettes, and it's helpful to your guests. Each element should be written out in full – avoid abbreviations.

Ensure the venue and exact address is written or typed on your invitations.

Plus-Ones and Children

It is usually unnecessary to state 'no children' or 'no partners' on the wedding invitation. Just saying the names of those included on an invite should take care of this. If guests aren't sure, they can always ask you.

Use Titles

When writing your invite to a married couple, traditionally you'll address them as 'Mr. and Mrs. X'. You can write out both full names as well, but be sure to include titles.

4. Be a Stickler about Spelling

Making sure your digital or physical invitations are well proof-read is very important. Beyond wanting to do things correctly, a mistake could change the meaning, or - heaven forbid - even the invites' date.

It's best to get at least three people to help you look for any errors before finalising, printing, and sending.

Another matter concerning spelling is that it is crucial to get people's names right. It shows you know them well enough, and care enough, to address their invitation to them accurately. Don't under-estimate the power of this. A misspelled name on an invite could be held against you in secret for years!

5. Keep to Your Theme

When doing your invites, remember to keep to the feel and colour schemes you have chosen for your wedding. It's best to do so consistently throughout.

Lastly, have fun! This is such a creative part of the process, and it makes the wedding feel more real. Yes, this is happening!
